Jacqui takes on open water swim challenge to raise funds for the Triathlon Trust

Published:

Jacqui was training for an open water swim challenge when she got 'caught up' in a Triathlon Trust mini triathlon event at her local pool. She was inspired to use her challenge as an opportunity to raise funds for the Triathlon Trust.

In Jacqui's own words...

"I’ve set myself a challenge to swim a mile freestyle in Castle Howard lake as part of the Castle Triathlon Series. I have been learning freestyle - as anyone who has tried open water swimming will know, it’s impossible to swim breast stroke with a dicky back in a wetsuit.

Whilst undergoing some training I witnessed 1,000 kids doing a taster triathlon. During my rest intervals (apart from gasping for air), I couldn’t have been more impressed at the enthusiasm, effort, fun and discipline of these children and the volunteers and organisers of this inclusive event. Not just for the naturally sporty children but for ALL including aids for children with disabilities too. Research suggests that as well as enjoying the event on the day, many of the children are also inspired to continue in sport, sometimes triathlon, sometimes only one of the disciplines.

I’m a strong believer that any sport will help promote a healthy physical and mental future for all. The benefits are endless.

My hope is that by supporting this charity for all children that they will continue in sport. Please support my efforts."

We'd like to say a big thank you to Jacqui for choosing to support the Triathlon Trust - the funds she is raising will enable us to deliver a fun, free bike-run activity day for schoolchildren at Shield Row Primary School, Tyneside in the new academic year. This non-competitive, fully inclusive event will give the whole school an opportunity to give duathlon a go, including those children with physical disabilities or special educational needs. We provide all the equipment required to participate including the bikes.
